Great little book.

As a dog trainer and all around dog advocate, I think it is a mistake for people to get a puppy at Christmas time. Often it is a snap decision made sometimes for the children. 6-8 months later, there is a dog who is at best ignored. In saying this, this book tackles that issue of getting a puppy at Christmas time for the person that does his/her homework. There is nothing wrong with getting a Christmas puppy if you know what you're doing and this is the book to help. This book is a GREAT essential guide. It has a great start to everything. It starts out with picking the right pup to the first days and nights and into basic training. It discusses the importance of vet visits and socialization. Susan Ewing writes in a way that the average dog owner can understand. She makes the information relevant and interesting. The chapter titles are great as well doing a play on words with some holiday songs. I would highly recommend this book to new puppy owners reguardless of the time of year.
