P.T.S.D. (Post Trump Series of Drawings)

This book is composed of drawings completed from the first 36 weeks following the election of Donald J. Trump to the office of the President of the United States. Titled P.T.S.D. (Post Trump Series of Drawings), this series was begun on November 9, 2016, one day after the election. All original drawings are 12"x 9" graphite on Bristol board. Most of the drawings depict a Kewpie doll character in action.Kewpie, from the impish character originally created by illustrator Rose O'Neill and introduced by The Ladies' Home Journal in 1909, immediately became a world-wide sensation, with thousands clamoring for the magazines and the dolls. During the 1950s, gaudy plaster versions of the Kewpie doll could be won at county fairs and carnivals. It is this cheap, bogus, derivative Kewpie that sprang to mind the day after the 2016 Presidential election. There is no better stand-in for the 45th President of the United States than a naughty Kewpie. The infantile, credulous, egotistical, delusional, and dangerous babbler can fittingly be represented by Kewpie (sans the tiny wings of the original). So, we have given "Kewpie" free reign in the White House to act out each week's bizarre and brutal reality show. The drawings relate to actions, events, and statements happening each week, and are intended to be at the same time humorous - and as deadly serious - as our situation.
