Akira Togunawa is a writer on the brink of collapse. He faces the failure of his career and the threat of losing his publishing contract. One night, in a dingy Tokyo bar, he meets Hana, a charming woman with whom he falls in love at first sight. Although friends and colleagues warn him about her, Akira ignores them all, for Hana is the only bright spot in his otherwise drab existence.
Soon, she begins to reveal her true nature. She isolates him, humiliates him, and manipulates him into an addict. Little by little, she degrades him as a human being, to the point of inciting him to suicide. But even in his misery, Akira clings to his love for Hana, convinced that she is his only support in a past marked by trauma, the only person who truly loves him.
