Man had finally reached the planet PROXIMA CENTAURI b... humanities first voyage beyond the Solar System. The spacecraft had originally launched from high-earth orbit firing up its nuclear fusion drive. It took fisteen days to accelerate under 1 g. to reach the cruising speed of 4.24 percent the speed of light. Upon landing in their small space shuttles as the mother spacecraft remained in orbit, history had been made.
Proxima Centauri b was tidally locked to its star. One side of the planet always faced the red dwarf star experiencing perpetual daylight, while the other side was in constant darkness. It lacked a day/night cycle. It was a world of extremes, its day side marked by intense radiation from its red dwarf star and its night side locked in icy darkness.
Terraforming drones would soon be put to work to convert the thin toxic atmosphere into something breathable.
All seemed to be going to plan...
