Miracle sudoku is, in the opinion of nearly every constraint-variant enthusiast who has attempted it, the most remarkable sudoku variant ever devised. On top of the ordinary sudoku rules â " row, column, and box each containing the digits one through nine exactly once â " the Miracle variant imposes three further prohibitions. No two cells a knight's move apart may contain the same digit. No two cells a king's move apart may contain the same digit. And no two orthogonally adjacent cells may contain consecutive digits. These three constraints together produce a reasoning space so aggressively pruned that placing a single digit in one cell forbids that digit from more than thirty of its neighbors â " effectively tripling the reach of every placement. The practical consequence is almost paradoxical: a Miracle puzzle can be solvable from just two or three initial clues.
