Written entirely in Spanish, this book is a selection of forty-six texts (stories, chronicles, essays, articles from journals, speeches and customs) that demonstrate the evolution of Spanish-American prose since its beginnings with Inca Garcilaso de la Vega until present day. Each text is preceded by a study of the author and his or her day, and an analysis of the text in question. The work is structured in three parts, each part corresponding to the periods in which the editors have divided the evolution of prose. The work also contains a general methodological introduction and a vocabulary. Intended for use in introductory and survey courses in Spanish-American literature.
