To quote Dr. Cornel West, "To prophesy is not to predict an outcome but rather to identify concrete evils. To prophesy deliverance is not to call for some otherworldly paradise but rather to generate enough faith, hope, and love to sustain the human possibility for more freedom." This book identifies the concrete evils of the types of injustice that are prevalent in our contemporary society and how these injustices contradict the commands of God in the Old Testament and the words and teachings of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. This book is a call for Christians to demonstrate the faith, hope, and love necessary to live in accordance with the Triune God's desire for justice as demonstrated throughout Scripture.
Part I of this book explores the concept of justice. Part II looks at various expressions of justice in the Old Testament, using Micah 6:8 as the guiding passage to help examine other expressions of justice. Part III examines different areas of justice as described by Jesus and other New Testament writers using Jesus' parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25 as the guiding passage. The specific areas of economic, racial, refugee/asylee, health care, and criminal justice are discussed; the prevalence of injustice in each of these areas is demonstrated and the ways in which Christians should respond to such injustice is examined. Finally, Part IV discusses how followers of Christ can move the world as it is toward the world as it should be by communicating the need for justice and working towards restoration and reconciliation
