Prophecy: A Journal for Tomorrow is a future-oriented Jewish journal dedicated to imagining what comes next, beyond crisis response, beyond inherited assumptions, and beyond the limits of conventional debate.
Founded in the wake of the cascading shocks of 2023 - the fracture of Israeli society, the trauma of October 7, and Israel's growing global isolation - Prophecy exists to create space for long-term thinking at a moment when short-term reactions dominate public life. Drawing inspiration from the prophetic tradition and the caf culture of early Zionist thinkers, the journal revives a form of serious, values-driven conversation oriented toward action, responsibility, and renewal .
Each issue is organized around a single animating theme and published in dialogue with the Jewish calendar, using moments of reflection and rupture as invitations to rethink the future. Rather than offering policy prescriptions or partisan positions, Prophecy brings together writers, thinkers, practitioners, and artists to ask deeper questions: What futures are we implicitly building through our current choices? Which ideas no longer serve us? And what new institutions, narratives, and moral frameworks are required for the world taking shape?
Across its issues, Prophecy treats critique as a necessary step toward vision. Contributors are encouraged not only to name failures and dangers, but to articulate plausible paths forward: cultural, political, economic, spiritual, and environmental. Some essays offer fully formed visions while others sketch directions, tensions, or openings. Together, they aim to expand the collective imagination and restore a sense of agency in shaping what lies ahead.
The journal is intentionally pluralistic and independent. It spans Israel and the Diaspora, religion and secular life, policy and culture, insisting that the future of the Jewish people and the State of Israel will be shaped at their intersections. Prophecy does not seek consensus. It seeks seriousness, honesty, and courage, aiming to create a shared space where disagreement can generate insight rather than fragmentation.
At its core, Prophecy is an invitation: to move beyond survival toward design, beyond reaction toward responsibility, and beyond despair toward the disciplined work of envisioning and building better futures, together.
