Great Casual Read

This book was my attempt of stepping outside of the John Grisham books that I normally read, and it did not disappoint. I hate that I came in on the middle of the J. P. Beaumont book series, book it was really good. Like Grisham's books, this book was pretty mild, especially in comparison to James Patterson which is a little hardcore for my tastes. If you like a little action, but in a subdued and mild manner, then you will enjoy this book. I plan on reading the next installment in the series, Sins of the Father, after it is released in September this year. The story surrounds a retired a Beaumont being thrown back into the investigation ring by an old acquaintance. He no longer has a badge, but his experience makes him invaluable. Anyone more familiar with the series than I am may recognize his wife Mel (Melissa), his son Scott and daughter-in-law Cherisse, and a bunch of professional acquaintances. There are also some new characters that he met for the first time. This book is no Count of Monte Cristo. In other words, every page is not filled with action. It has a few lulls, such as when discussing the lovable dog Lucy that Mel takes in and Beaumont comes to love. The pace of the story reminds me of Grisham's The Whistler which did not pick up until halfway through the book. Still, it's not frustratingly slow like Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea which was wholly a lull that never picked up.
