Programmable Logic Controllers and Programming Concepts: With Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Applications

By Joji Parambath

Book Overview

'Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Programming Concepts - with Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Applications' is an introductory textbook designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of programmable electronic control systems. The book covers the hardware and software aspects of PLCs in detail, and demonstrates their practical applications in controlling electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using bit logic, memory, timing, and counting instructions. The book also describes analog input and output signal representations and programming.

The hardware and software aspects of PLCs are presented in a logical sequence and simple-to-understand language. Many instructions for SIEMENS, Allen Bradley, and OMRON PLCs are explained for a comparative study. The book also has a chapter on troubleshooting PLCs.

Exercises of simple to medium complexity in electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic fields are chosen to assist readers' logical thinking and prepare them for more complex programming tasks. Basic programs are provided for problems of small-to-medium complexity. Additionally, programming for the automatic operation of single-actuator systems and the automatic sequential operation of multiple cylinders is presented, along with programming techniques using timing diagrams.

The book is designed to facilitate quick learning of PLCs and provide the essential fundamentals for establishing a strong foundation in PLCs.
