Too Bad It's Out of Print!

I found this book very helpful when I was learning to write fiction. I later had a few stories published in good magazines, and Jean Owen deserves some of the credit! In short, succinct chapters, she discusses the basic techniques of plot, theme, dialog, characterization, flashback, and so on. Other how-to-write books may have more depth or more literary merit, but if you're just starting out, Owen's no-nonsense approach and attention to detail will give you a big boost. --Jim Aikin
