Production of Pinus elliottii Engelm. and Pinus caribaea Morelet

In the Mozambican forestry sector, assessing the growth and determining the yield of the main planted species (Pinus spp and Eucalypto spp) has been a major concern. Therefore, this study aims to assess the growth and production of Pinus elliottii Engelm. and Pinus caribaea Morelet. The study was carried out at IFLOMA's plantations in Bandula, Manica district. For this study, continuous forest inventory (CFI) data was used from 6 permanent plots of 0.125ha (50 x 25 m) in stands of different ages, 4 of which were Pinus elliottii at 11, 11.2, 12 and 32.3 years of age and 2 of Pinus caribaea at 13 and 39.3 years of age. To monitor the plots, successive sampling with total repetition was used. Evaluations were carried out on two occasions, 2013 and 2020. In each plot, the DBH, total height and qualitative characteristics of the trees were measured, namely stem form (FT), health status (ES), and branching and bifurcation (RB) and the average annual increment (IMA), periodic increment (IP) and annual periodic increment (IPA) were also evaluated, in terms of DBH, height, basal area and volume.
