I just finished reading this book, and I have to say that Jan Clark is one of my favorite authors now. The worlds and peoples she created were rich and detailed, and she made sure that there were no inconsistancies in what she wrote. The plot was thrilling, the conclusion was grand, and the overall effect on me was amazement!
A refreshing new entry into the world of Sci-Fi authors.

While somewhat predictable, the plot has enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. The style is open and refreshing with Ms. Clark doing a credible job on the dialog. Before the end of the first chapter there are several plots and sub-plots in place for Captain Rieka Degahv to contest in until the end and that is where the story line weakens. However, the ending is sufficient for the Hollywood crowd and the stroy is maintained until then.I will be looking for the next Jan Clark novel.
A new space opera author to compete with Weber and Bujold

A pretty good space opera to compete with David Weber's Honor Harrington and Lois McMaster Bujold`s Miles Vorkosigan. I would love to see more in a series. A little lite on the science for SF but good space opera with better than average characters.
Great Sci-fi first effort

This is a great first novel and I hope Ms. Clark continues to write books about Rieka and her adventures. The premise of the book is fresh and Clark has a deft touch with her characterizations and suspense. A must read for sci-fi fans!!
