Procedural narratives on violence in banking work

The objective of this study was to analyse the meanings attributed to violence by different actors involved in a case heard in the labour courts. The narratives recorded in the case were grouped into three categories that encompass the discursive productions of the actors, namely the Prosecution, the Defence and the Labour Judge. Finally, different subcategories of analysis were identified that could reveal the meanings of violence from the perspective of the aforementioned actors. Analyses of the discursive practices recorded in the judicial case in question revealed that the acts of violence experienced by the claimant (victim) were interpreted differently by the different actors involved. The interpretation and understanding of these different meanings indicate that, depending on the interests and the process of subjectivation at play, violence can be naturalised, trivialised, repudiated and even admitted in the context of work.
