This book looks at how problematic language is an issue for me in relating to other people and forming social relationships. We will examine the social concept of black and white thinking and how an autistic person might skip social steps and go from step 1 to step 787 in getting to know someone or building a social relationship. We will often use a social example that Dr. Peter Gerhardt often talks about in his speaking engagements. This book will look at manding to develop social relationships from my perspective as an autistic adult with level 1 autism. We will examine how I am able to mand very well for something in one context but struggle to mand for things in a socially significant way that help me achieve building healthy relationships. The book also looks at how special interest contribute to problematic language in level 1 autistic adults. This book will open the eyes of the reader to help them realize that even folks with higher "functioning" or level 1 autism can struggle with problematic language. At the end of this book, we will take a look at problematic language in non-verbal communication. Most of problematic language occurs within the context of verbal communication.
