A fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse of the inner workings of the 80's wrestling world

Pro Wrestling Kids' Style is the remarkable story of Shawn "Crusher" Crossen, who managed and promoted "The Kids Pro Wrestling Show" which started in 1984 as fun and games but soon spread to thousands of living rooms across the country via cable television and began the National Wrestling Federation, or NWF. For five years, Crossen kept the NWF going with professional poise, and achieved high popularity among kids and adults alike. Yet all good things must come to an end; Pro Wrestling Kids' Style tells of the hard lessons that led to the final NWF bell, and reflects on where the movers and shakers of the NWF are today. A fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse of the inner workings of the 80's wrestling world, which reads briskly and is especially recommended for sports fans.

Must have

This is a phenomenal book that should be required reading for all middle school students. Shawn is an inspiration to us all. If you ever have the opportunity to sit and talk with Shawn, I encourage to keep your ears open and soak up every minute. He is not only a remarkable writer but an amazing human being. We need more people like Shawn Crossen in this world and I hope he has the opportunity to share his unique wisdom and talent with the youth of today. They can only benefit.

Pro Wrestling Kids' Style

Follow Shawn "Crusher" Crossen through the journey of his life from a normal teen to a wrestling promoter. Shawn created, started, and promoted the National Wrestling Federation (NWF), a kids wrestling organization, while just a teenager. For five years the NWF was under the control of Shawn Crossen and it was the start of not only the Federation but of what is known today as backyard wrestling except, they actually had venues, they actually had fans, they were on T.V., they were actually wrestling, these teens who stopped at nothing to live their dreams. You not only hear from Crossen in the book, but you see the events through pictures, these young boys living the lives of wrestling superstars. Walking the walk, and talking the talk, Crossen recreates his struggle, his adversities, and his successes in this easy to follow book that all can enjoy. Before this I'd never heard of this league where kids wrestle, but I wish to now see it, and watch the story unfold as I have read it in the book. To see history, to see the performance, to see the life of author Shawn Crossen. Good Job, Shawn, on a great book and a great success.

I lived it!

Back in 1986, I had the honor and privilege of being a wrestler in the NWF, the wrestling league Shawn Crossen created and wrote about in his book "Pro Wrestling Kids' Style: The Most Amazing Untold Story In Professional Wrestling History". By no means am I writing this review to promote anybody or anything, I just wanted to say that people of all ages will enjoy and appreciate Shawn's real-life story about having an idea, watching it become a reality, and making your dreams come true. You don't even have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy this book.

Kids Pro Wrestling Book Review

In today's world when you think about kids trying to perform professional wrestling, you think of those horrific "backyard wrestling", trampolines and kids maiming each other to near death. Although starting out in the basement of the owner Shawn "Crusher" Crossen, the National Wrestling Federation AKA Kids Pro Wrestling quickly became one of the hottest promotions of the 1980's . They quickly tried to be a legitimate promotion and soon from the basement wrestling on mattresses they were promoting live wrestling events from the Anoka Armory. The National Wrestling Federation didn't try to be a "backyard" promotion. To them, they were just as elite as the World Wrestling Federation(now WWE) or the American Wrestling Association. Pro Wrestling Kids' Style takes a look at the history of the inner and outer workings of the National Wrestling Federation as told through the owner himself Shawn "Crusher" Crossen. Kids Pro Wrestling started in 1984 by Shawn Crossen and Charley Lane and ended after a heated cross promotional battle in 1990. This book not only shows the mind of a wrestling genius in Shawn Crossen but it shows how far a group of friends are willing to go to make a dream come true. These kids really functioned far better than any adult could. They provided not only great wrestling action physically but they also showed how they could function and create great television. As for the book itself, it's a very easy read. Shawn Crossen uses the English language to his advantage and makes this book a fun and enjoyable story. Sometimes when writing about one's self, often times a book may come off egotistical. Definitely not in this case. Shawn Crossen gives credit where credit is due and compliments each person (well minus a few who turned their backs on the NWF) and credits the NWF's success on everyone and not just himself. That is a true compliment to himself. There is only one very minor flaw in the book is that it is simply too short. I am not sure if he could add more in or not but for some reason 138 pages just doesn't do this book justice. This however is a very solid book that gives the perspective of how wrestling should be....fun! Overall score based on A through F : A-
