a unique glimpse into Chinese prison system

Two American Fulbright scholars are caught spying for the United States at the beginning of the Communist era. They are sent into a Chinese prison for re-education. It is highly unusual to find a book on this subject that positively reflects the energy and zeal of the idealistic early Chinese Communist leardership. The authors write of their own experience from their first contacts with the U.S. Government, through their Chinese studies, into the period of the Communist Revolution, the discovery of their spying, their trial, imprisonment, and return to the States. Very educational. Not the view we usually get of the Chinese system.
