The "firecracker debut"(Kirkus) about London teenagers contemplating murder. After his mother takes another beating from her drug-dealing boyfriend, Danny decides to do something about itcommit... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A teenager with a whole, hot, lazy summer ahead of him has so many possibilities. Si wants to float lazily by with his "mates" in his own summer of love but his best friend and a strange girl bumpershoot him in other directions. This is a story of figuring out what kind of adult to become when your only examples are people who run away from responsibilities or run straight into trouble and self destruction. This book really had my attention and it was so easy to fall in love with the teen characters. The only trouble was that they were almost too perfect. Si ponders the difficulty of walking on the right side of the line, but he always chooses the right side, even when he doesn't think he does. I didn't care though. I wanted the characters to be perfect. I wanted them to be true to their hearts. Don't get turned off by the rock-star guy on the cover (as nearly I did). This book has some fantastic dialogue and I wouldn't be surprised if some Hollywood studio decides to maul it into a movie. Great read.

Gripping story with unforgettable characters--especially, Si, the narrator. What a complex young man. I read the book in a single evening. Couldn't put it down, although it hurt to read.
