This is better than California Math text books

My son did well in a very very good Public School system for Math in the 4th grade. Then he went to an elite Private school for the 5th grade that used this math for the first part of the year. I am sold. This material is light years better then the public schools. It makes the child think much more as each topic is looked at in all sorts of unique twist. Learning percentages with rectangles. Summary: Singapore Primary Math is better than US math in this Dad's opinion. Graduate of UC Berkeley Statistics.
Excellent Math Curriculum

I have used Singapore Math/Primary Mathematics for my children for four years now, and am about to purchase materials for their fifth year. I am extremely pleased with Singapore. My three boys each have very different learning styles, and this curriculum works for all of them. Between the workbook, textbook (which is geared just towards the student, and does not contain the answer key), and home instructor's guide (which has teaching methods and the answer keys), math is presented in an attractive, sensible, effective way -- easy to teach for the instructor, and easy to learn for the student. This curriculum has, in my opinion, just the right amount of daily work, plus regular, comprehensive reviews. It is also quite cost-effective, especially if you have (or will have) multiple students in the same grade, since only the workbook is consumable.
An excellent resource for teachers of elementary school math

American educators are regularly reminded that the educational systems in other countries do a better job in teaching their students. While it is possible to dispute some of the statistics, the fact is that the evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the reminders. One of the best ways to explore the reasons for this is to look at the textbooks being used in other countries. This book is used to teach mathematics in the primary grades in Singapore, a nation with a proven track record of educational success. From the contents, it is clearly a superb teaching tool. Visual aids are extensively used and the examples are solved in a stepwise manner. Cartoon-like figures of young children with thought balloons also increase the level of fun children will have when reading it. The topics covered are beginning algebraic expressions, solid geometric figures and ratios, percentages and proportions. The bulk of the book is dedicated to the last three categories. I was impressed when reading it and would recommend it to any elementary school teacher. If I had known about it when my daughter was in elementary school, I would have purchased a copy.
