A Modern Take on a Beloved Classic

This was a perfect take on Pride and Prejudice. There were lots of Latinx and Black representation, and the writing felt authentic and inspiring. This book deals with some sobering topics like gentrification, wealth disparity, familial obligations, and college applications without overwhelming the reader. For that reason, I think this is a great book for young readers who enjoy novels but want real life reflected in the pages they read. The characters in this book are deeply flawed and blinded by their pride (and you guessed it— prejudices!) but their flaws were essential to their development and added some cohesion to the story. My only real piece of criticism is that the ending felt rushed and slightly incomplete. I think the book could have benefited from one more chapter, but overall, I think this was an incredible read.
