Preaching the Gospel Anew: Saint Clement Maria Hofbauer

By Josef Heinzmann and Josef Heinzmann C.Ss.R.

Few saints in history have had to overcome as many daunting obstacles as the man whose Catholic Reform Movement in Austria and Germany transformed post-Revolutionary nineteenth-century society and whose ideas for Christian renewal influence us today. This thoughtful biography of Saint Clement Maria Hofbauer delves into his complex life in Austria, Bavaria, and Warsaw, in all its contradiction--an unusual mixture of deep interior contemplation and active duty for God. Confronting problems as diverse as Napoleonic spying, anticlerical persecution, government blacklisting, and personal tragedy, Saint Clement never wavered in his faith. Historically accurate, yet engaging and easy to read, with black and white photos, Preaching the Gospel Anew: Saint Clement Maria Hofbauer unravels the mystery of Saint Clement and paves the way for living a life grounded in the principles of God's Word.
