WHY THE LORD 'S PRAYER ? Dear brothers and sisters in this glorious Faith, I present to you one of the many prayers I have practiced for many years to commune with my Father, God the Creator, and to strengthen my spiritual life. For many years I have prayed the Lord's Prayer, not as a mere religious repetition, but as a prayer of great importance to Christianity. Every branch of Christianity worldwide prays this prayer as part of its rituals. It would be very difficult to find a person in countries with Christian roots who does not know this prayer. The supreme importance of this prayer is that it was the prayer Jesus taught us, from which I deduce that He also used it for that life of communion He had each day with His Father God. It is evident that we cannot attribute Jesus' success solely to the fact that He was the Son of God. Through daily prayer, Jesus depended entirely on His Father in heaven, first to sanctify His humanity, and second to carry out the work of redemption that God entrusted to Him. It was no secret to his disciples that Jesus was a man of prayer. Often, they would find him praying very early in the morning in a secluded place. At other times, he would finish his large gatherings with the crowds and go up the mountain to spend the night in prayer. I believe a book could be written about Jesus' prayer life. How did this prayer come about, or rather, why did Jesus teach it? The Bible says that on one occasion Jesus was praying in a certain place. The disciples saw him and noticed that his prayer was very different from the prayers the Pharisees offered. They said to the Master, "Teach us to pray." Jesus then gave them what is known today as the Lord's Prayer. The prayer is not a poem that one recites line by line. This prayer is a summary of the themes that Jesus considered important, beginning by acknowledging the Father in heaven and concluding by acknowledging His Kingdom, His Power, and His Glory. This prayer, which I present in this book, I have divided into ten parts that comprise the main ingredients of any prayer. Each person can pray it under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and according to their needs that day. In my experience, I have prayed it in one hour, and sometimes it has taken me more than two hours. I advise you to visualize yourself with Jesus in your place of prayer, inviting God the Father to present your petitions and always asking the Holy Spirit to help you in your weakness. We have Jesus' great promise: But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
