Today, as violence erupts fiercely across the Middle East, believers are often told to pray for the peace of Israel. But how are we to know the will of God concerning Israel today? How do we pray effectively in the midst of so much controversy?James W. Goll calls readers to join the global prayer movement and intercede for God's ancient covenant people according to a targeted biblical plan. A practical yet inspiring book, Praying for Israel's Destiny includes biblical reasons to pray and stand for Israel, eight character models from the Scriptures to help readers carry the burden, and a strong admonition to pray for all the descendants of Abraham-the offspring of Hagar, Sarah, and Keturah, Jews and Arabs alike.Praying for Israel's Destiny is a journey into the heart of God for his purposes in the Middle East.
This is an urgent call for Christians to support Israel and the Diaspora Jewish people in these ominous times. Consisting of three parts: Praying for spiritual understanding, for the descendants of Abraham, and for the fullness of God's promises, the book provides a framework on how to effectively intercede for Israel and the other descendents of Our Father Abraham. Applicable verses from scripture and prayer templates round off each chapter. In part one, the author explains what being a Watcher entails, provides seven reasons to stand with Israel and looks at four great shepherds of the Hebrew nation: Moses, Solomon, Nehemiah and Asaph. Then he discusses four more prophets who carried the burden: Joel, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel. Thus he explains the character and qualities of heart needed to be an intercessor and how these are acquired and developed through prayer. Part two, Praying For The Descendants of Abraham, deals with the children of Abraham's wives Hagar, Sarah and Keturah in turn. Goll states emphatically that the Arabs are not the enemy but that spiritual forces are. Arab tradition maintains that the descendants of Hagar's son Ishmael settled in the Arabian peninsula, while the Good Book says the sons of Keturah went East. They are thus likely to be amongst the speakers of Iranian or Kurdish languages. In this regard, recent genetic research shows that Jews are more closely related to groups in the north of the Fertile Crescent like Kurds and Armenians, than to their Arab neighbors. More information is available in the book DNA and Tradition: The Genetic Link to the Ancient Hebrews by Rabbi Yaakov Kleiman. See especially chapter 9: Abraham's Chromosome? Genetic Indications of the Historical Abraham. Whatever their exact identities, true Christians must pray for all the children of Abraham in accordance with God's purposes. The first chapter of part three, Jerusalem: A City Of Destiny, lists the many names of the Holy City like City of the Great King, Holy Mountain, Throne of the Lord and Zion. The author mentions the special day of prayer for the peace of Jerusalem inspired by Psalm 122 that is held annually on the first Sunday in October near the date of Yom Kippur. The wording of the resolution for this call to payer is included and the author explains what it really means to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This section also deals with a disturbing chapter in American history - President Roosevelt's silence in the face of the Holocaust and accounts of antisemitism in the State Department. Strange how some things do not change, as even today that department does not have a spotless record of support for Israel. Pressure for appeasement and for peace moves by Israel continue to issue from it whilst to most sane people it is obvious that such gestures by Israel only embolden the enemy. Chapter 8: Praying For The Fulfillment of Aliyah, explores the ingathering of Jews to the land of Israel. This includes a brief history o

The subject of praying for Israel has received no lack of attention in the last half-century among politically conservative, charismatic and evangelical Christians. Speaking as someone who fits into that category and has studied history and prayed for Israel, I can honestly say that James Goll's "Praying for Israel's Destiny" is different from any other book I have read in this genre. This book was not written as a theological treatise to inflate the learner with knowledge and arguments to defend the author's particular End Times theology, but with the aim of stimulating compassion and effective intercession for all of Abrahams descendents in the Middle-East, including the Muslims! I found myself reserving this book for times that I wanted to pray instead of times that I wanted to read because of the effect that it had on me. There is also some incredibly thought-provoking historical facts at the end of the book that grabbed and held my attention. Praying for Israel's destiny has been a good experience, and so was reading the book! :)
