Prayers to Turn a Nation: From the Structure of Malachi

Beneath the surface of the Book of Malachi exists a striking pattern of order. Although our Bibles are divided into chapters and verses, most likely some books of the Bible were originally divided into blocks of chiastic poetry. This structure is well known in the seminaries, but has not as yet made its way into the common understanding of the Body of Messiah. Nevertheless, ten to twenty percent additional information content can be derived from Malachi's literary structure.Malachi is divided into seven blocks of poetry, addressing seven sinful attitudes, which took up residence in the heart of the nation of Judah. The LORD, through Malachi, reveals the spiritual solution for each of Judah's sins. Malachi was specifically written to turn the hearts of a nation back to Him. By praying according to Malachi for the LORD's spiritual solutions, we can be used of God to help turn our nation, our people, and our churches back to Him.
