Slow Down, Rest and Find Some Peace

This wonderful book by Deacon Eddie Ensley offers gentle support and encouragement for those plagued by stress and anxiety. In a world filled with stress, Deacon Ensley offers the "consolation of God's love" as a means toward the end of finding spiritual and emotional peace. This book looks at many different forms of prayer and is even a great introduction for those who may not currently have an active prayer life. Two examples of prayer studied in the book are Lectio Divina and the Jesus Prayer. Both lead the participant toward spiritual communication with God that will form a deeper spiritual conversation. One of my favorite chapters in this book deals with Thankfulness and remembering to count one's blessings. Each chapter concludes with a scriptural reference for practicing Lectio Divina, a guided meditation or spiritual journey prayer/reflection and a series of journaling questions. Eddie Ensley wisely counsels that some readers who struggle with issues of stress and anxiety may indeed need to seek professional medical help for their afflictions. But for those looking to keep life in balance, and even better, this book can be a wonderful resource towards serenity and a closer relationship with God.
