Great Guide for Deepening Your Prayer Life

Debbie brings prayer to life by highlighting the attributes of God. This book is a great tool in teaching your children ways to praise the Lord for His greatness. From A to Z Debbie walks you through the process of how to approach the Throne of God by exalting His name. The prayer journal that accompanies the book, Prayers of the Heart, has been a marvelous aid in helping me to keep track of people I desire to remember in prayer. It's a practical accompaniment to the book. I've already been through two prayer journals and bought sets for all my friends. You will love them both!

Being In Prayer

Pray With Purpose is the most comprehensive and complete group Prayer guide I have encountered in the past 35 years. Individual or small group - it was excellent.

Living with Passion for Christ, who is Light, Life...

PRAY WITH PURPOSE, LIVE WITH PASSION: HOW PRAISING GOD A TO Z WILL TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE exceeded my expectations. I checked this book out of the library, then got sidetracked from reading it, then raced to read it (in a day) before it was due, and now see I need to buy my own copy, it is that good. Author Debbie Williams frames this devotional book in thirty-one chapters, twenty-six of which cover a wide span of attributes of God, one for each letter of our English alphabet, from the Almighty to Zealous God. She writes as a mature, tried Christian, one whose own personal walk with God is deep and rich. This comes through in the humble style in which the book is written, and I felt when reading it that God was giving me a precious gift through the author, through the book, for He, Himself is honored, exalted, glorified on every page, which in turn encourages and guides the reader in deepening their own walk with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The author shows great reverence in her handling of the written Word of God, including by frequently referring to the Hebrew and Greek forms of words drawn from the translation she uses (primarily the New American Standard Bible). I would prefer that she had used the Authorized King James Version: with all its flaws, I have settled on it above all others, but not to the exclusion of all others. My own study of the Bible is in its fourth decade now; nevertheless, the author has pulled quite a few nuggets out of scriptures that seem new to me. For example, in the chapter on "Light" (as an attribute of God), she goes to the scriptural account of Lazarus in John 11, and reminds that when Lazarus' family called for Jesus to come, His disciples reminded him that Judea was a place where people had tried to kill Jesus. She talks of being in a quandary when making a decision, and our need for God, who is Light, to guide our way, and focuses on verses 9 and 10, and the rich meaning therein: the last time I studied that passage, I was drawn so much into verse 11 that I almost missed the two preceding verses, which seem so relevant at this time. In fact, the book seems relevant throughout. In the chapter on "Wonderful," the author reminds that as Christians we are meant to live lives that are extraordinary, peculiar, that provide place for God to manifest Himself, His glory. In the final chapter, "Zealous" she notes that God, who has transferred us to His kingdom, is both zealous and jealous for us. She says, "God desires to carve away any lingering habits that reflect the kingdom of darkness from which He rescued us." The effects and aftereffects of Satan's kingdom -- the world, the flesh, the devil -- can became deeply sifted into our lives, so much so that only the Word of God, with the power to split asunder soul and spirit (Heb. 4:12), can cleanse us from such unrighteousness, through the washing of the water by the word (Eph. 5:26). Yet today, I plan to buy this book and the author's PRA

Pray with Purpose Live with Passion

I found this title as a library book. God is speaking to me so clearly about my own life, that I have to own this book. It seems each page has further direction relavant to me. As a recent widow, I am looking for God's direction as never before.

A refreshing devotional guide to prayer

Debbie Williams inspires her readers to focus on the attributes of God from A to Z in Pray With Purpose, Live With Passion. For example, "A" represents Almighty from Psalm 91:1, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty," demonstrating that when we are weak, our power and strength is in the Lord. But Williams doesn't stop there. She recounts God's revelation of His praiseworthy characteristics in the Bible, encourages personal growth in that area, and provides examples of how to pray with understanding of the attribute. Consisting of two main sections, Pray With Purpose delves into an elegant method for God-honoring prayer, using the acronym P-R-A-Y in part one, and contains A to Z mini-chapters in part two. The attribute chapters begin with a Scripture and prayer, and follow with William's study of it, a meditation moment, and a prayer action to take. As such, the book can be used easily as a devotional guide to prayer. It's refreshing to read about giving honor and submitting to our Lord as a means of fulfillment, as opposed to teaching that strives after what we can get from Him. After reading many books on prayer, this book is not an academic look at prayer, instead it provides a practical basis for deepening one's prayer life, and ultimately living passionately for Him. If you are looking for biblically sound ideas to spark your prayer life, but not rote prayers for reciting, Pray With Purpose, Live With Passion will be a valuable addition to your library. - Anne Walker, Christian Book Previews.com
