Practice to Mastery: AP(R) Precalculus Workbook is a practice-first workbook for students preparing for AP(R) Precalculus or a comparable precalculus course. It gives you hundreds of original exam-style questions arranged in the same order as the course, so you can practice each topic while you learn it and build toward the full exam.
The book follows the unit structure of the AP(R) Precalculus Course and Exam Description:
Unit 1: Polynomial Functions and Rational Functions. Rates of change, polynomial and rational functions, zeros and end behavior, asymptotes and holes, transformations, and function models.
Unit 2: Exponential Functions and Logarithmic Functions. Sequences, exponential and logarithmic functions, composition and inverses, semi-log plots, and exponential and logarithmic models.
Unit 3: Trigonometric Functions and Polar Functions. The unit circle, sinusoidal functions and models, tangent and inverse trigonometric functions, identities and equations, and polar functions.
Unit 4: Parametric Functions, Vectors, and Matrices. A shorter supplementary unit for courses and classroom tests that include this material, which is not assessed on the AP(R) Exam.
Each of the three exam units contains 150 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions. Every multiple-choice set is split the way the exam is split: a no-calculator block that asks for exact values, symbolic work, graphs, and reasoning, and a graphing-calculator block that asks for regressions, numerical solutions, intersections, and decimal data. Questions are tagged Easy, Medium, or Hard and run from Easy to Hard within each block, so you can see exactly where your understanding holds and where it breaks.
The free-response questions cover all four question types on the exam: Function Concepts, Modeling a Non-Periodic Context, Modeling a Periodic Context, and Symbolic Manipulations. Each one comes with a point-by-point scoring guide, notes on what a response must contain, partial-credit rules, and a complete model solution, so you can score your own work the way the exam is scored.
Every multiple-choice question has a full worked explanation that shows why the correct answer is correct, with exact steps for no-calculator items and the calculator operation and three-decimal results for calculator items. Explanations point out the common slips that lead to wrong answers, so each mistake becomes something you can fix.
The book ends with a full-length practice exam built to the published format: 29 no-calculator and 13 graphing-calculator multiple-choice questions, followed by four free-response questions, two with a calculator and two without. It includes an answer key, explanations, scoring guides, and a score estimate. None of its questions appears in the units.
Inside you will find:
526 unit multiple-choice questions and 22 unit free-response questions
A full-length practice exam with 42 multiple-choice and 4 free-response questions
Graphs, tables, unit circles, and polar grids drawn for the questions
Detailed explanations and point-by-point scoring guides for every question
A recommended study workflow and practical tips for the exam
All questions, data sets, graphs, and explanations are original. This workbook pairs with its companion, Practice to Mastery: AP(R) Precalculus Practice Exams, which contains 12 full-length practice exams; the two books share their conventions and contain no question in common.
