Book Overview

Create and use powerful symbols of Will

Practical Sigil Magic is widely regarded as the definitive guide to the topic. Unavailable for a number of years and long sought-after by magicians, this classic work is now available once again.

Sigil magic is one of the most efficient and economical of magical disciplines. It can be performed without complicated rituals or paraphernalia, is independent of philosophical and dogmatic premises, and can be learned easily and quickly. Most important, it will give even beginning magicians the chance to work with the power of the Will and enhance their own abilities. This classic reference work will provide magicians--from novice to adept-- with instruction that will empower and advance their magical practice.

Praise:
"Frater U∴D∴ writes from a background of extensive practical achievement and theoretical knowledge to present a book of magical techniques for those who dare to use them."--Peter J. Carroll, author of Liber Null & Psychonaut

Important book.

It never ceases to amaze me how Llewellyn puts some of their best books out of print and keeps the fluffy crap. This is no exception. Now valued at several times its original price, it is a very valuable contribution to the library of any magician, esp. those involved in chaos magic or Hermeticism (due to the section on magic squares and sigils at the end). In this book Frater U.:D.: explores the system of A. O. Spare regarding sigils and sorcery. The book is basic, accessible, but not without substance. It covers a wide range of material in a way which is at once both basic and provides room for practice and experimentation. Novices and experienced magicians alike have much to gain from this book. My only complaint has to do with the fact that the book is short (a bit over 100 pages of main text set in larger-than-normal font). However within that short length we see the outlines of a simple, elegant system drawn that needs little further explanation. Now, one area I am exploring in my studies is the question whether ancient Scandinavian traditions may have some important parallels to Spare's approach in terms of poetic helmings (used to obscure meanings in certain forms of poetry), etc. The possibility of important parallels to other historical traditions may be a fruitful area of exploration. All in all I would highly recommend this work. It is worth even the large price it is commanding today.

Better all around, than others I've read.

This was the first of a few books on Sigils and Chaos magic, that i had read. It is far easier to read and work through than those b peter Carrol, and I have had some success with the performance and charging of sigils. Just be aware of thet fact thet you need to be specific about what you " wish for " you just might get it with a twist If you leave things vague.

Just Wonderful

This book is superb, and it is a travesty that something so groundbreaking is out of print. Frater U.D. has performed a great service in making Austin Osman Spare's works comprehensible to the average magickal practitioner, such as myself. All one needs for this type of magick is a pen and paper, as well as the desire to perform a five-second ritual to implant one's wish into one's subconscious. And I haven't even mentioned the fascinating Alphabet of Desire! It is fair to say that this publication has changed my entire way of thinking about magick and mental processes. Believe me, in case of fire, this book is what I would save first.

Theory And Practice Of Sigil Magic

If you're new to the subject Practical Sigil Magic is a good place to start. If you already know how to do sigil magic you'll probably find this book redundant. On second thought, you might find a few ideas here that you never thought of before (this author has a habit of doing that). Good, clear information. The book should have been called Sigil Magic for Dummies.
