Practical Projects for the Blacksmith has all the information you need to learn while doing. It tells how to set up a simple and inexpensive forge, what few tools you'll need to get started, where to... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The authors philosophy of the craft is beautiful and I find his thoughts and approach comforting, a true believer in our midst. The book starts with the basics of making a cheap forge from scrounged bits; an old barbecue, some plumbing fittings and a hair dryer. I must try it some time. Then its on to setting up the work area and building a fire (coal fire, not coke). An overview of technical terms is next and most of the terms are illustrated by accompanying sketches. Now onto the projects, a wide variety of items are demonstrated and cover a range of Blacksmith skills. The projects are described in detail and the instructions are delivered with a warmth and humour that give an insight to the author's skill and derived enjoyment as a teacher of the craft. The projects are well illustrated with both sketches and photographs; the finished articles have a life and charm of their own. Any decorative touches are not overdone and they enhance the article, as they should.I really like this book. Definitely one for your bookshelf if you have an interest in the craft of the Blacksmith.
