This book attempts to bring to the poor farmer some practical aspects of vegetable production with the backdrop that proper adoption of these simplified methodologies and techniques would help boost vegetable production at the local level and help to alleviate poverty and improve the financial status of local peasants. This is due to the fact that vegetables are high value crops on per unit area basis compared to other crops often grown by the farmers. Tentatively, these financial earnings would in turn empower them to venture into other business-related areas that may bring in better returns, like establishing small businesses with value additions or avoiding the low-priced farm gate sales of farm produce, by increasing acreage, jointly hiring vehicles to transport farm produce to urban centers for better pricing. In a space of time this would change the face of production, enhance efficiency and help realize growth at the local level with many players getting involved like forming co-operatives or unions for even better empowerment and benefits.
