The Power of Calculus is an excellent introduction!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 27 years ago
Although no longer in print, The Power of Calculus is an excellent introduction to the calculus of a single variable. The book was primarily written for business or general-science students and provides a one-semester introduction to basic calculus that covers limits, derivities, derivitive applications, integration, integration applications, and partial derivitives (yes, the final chapter takes a peak at multi-variable calculus). What I liked about the book when I taught from it many years ago is that it was a nice healthy blend of visual intuition and traditional mathematical rigor. Too, the book included an abundance of starred problems that were very unique and captivating. Believe me, both of these commodities are rare in the world of mathematics texts. I very much appreciated the breath of fresh air provided by this book as did my calculus students.
