It all begins at the table. A long table dressed in an oversized tablecloth and covered with various pyrex dishes, fiesta bowls, covered casseroles, dutch ovens, and cake plates. The tradition is... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Unlike the first reviewer I found the first chapter to be charming and nostalgic, hardly paltry! As it closely resembled my own family picture, not perfect to be sure, it brought tears to my eyes. I have made LimeLoaf and beware! It is better than it sounds and looks. You won't feel bad if you have leftovers to enjoy secretly, alone, after everyone has gone to bed... Thanks for the sweet reminders of things past, Kim. I enjoyed them all.
Well worth reading

Potluck isn't the type of book I would normally buy. It was a long interview with the author I heard on the radio that convinced me to get it, and it was worth every penny. I didn't care for the atmosphere of the opening chapter -- to me, the family atmosphere didn't come across as warm and supportive as the author intended it to (I think), mostly because it was overshadowed by descriptions of aunts smoking and playing cards and one telling off-color jokes, which made it all seem a little paltry. I only mention this because if it strikes someone else this way, I want them to know it's worth reading on. The rest of the book is beautiful, touching, deeply thought-provoking and sometimes funny. I found myself taking breaks just to think about what I'd read, to think about how I might apply it. How can I make the people I come into contact with and the people in my life feel more significant, more important, more cherished? These are the things you'll come away comtemplating. And you get two bonuses with the book. First, it's chock-full of good recipes (I've already tried one) that you want to try not only because they look good, but because you feel as if you know the people who prepared them for a particular potluck gathering. Second, the book is beautiful and feels good in your hands. The cover art is by the author and is something I'd love to have on my mantlepiece. There are a lot of books out there about relationships -- how to do them, formulas, step-by-steps, rules -- this one just explores them and gives you food for thought so you can explore on your own.

I had to undo the top button of my jeans from feasting on"Potluck".Kim has a delicious ability to sort through to the best in a personality, as in a recipe.
