Pop Music, U.S.A. is designed to be used in a college-level general music class. It covers popular music in America from pre-Revolutionary War times through the present (2018). This description may be from another edition of this product.
I am a former student of Dr. Anderson and the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. I was introduced to this text while taking Dr. Anderson's History of Jazz and Pop class. While I am no longer a student I still find myself using this text as a research and reference tool in my daily working life. The book clearly illustrates the progression of music through the history of our country. Many musicologists seem to ignore how the sociopolitical climate of an era effected the development of the music of that time in history. Dr. Anderson not only acknowledges the connections but also examines them in a manner that is clear, concise and entertaining. I would recommend this book to any lover of music.
Crash Course in Pop Music

I am a student of Dr. Anderson's and while I feel the chapters on Heavy Metal and Seattle Grunge could have been better(only because they are my favorites), it is very well written over all. This is a great book for those who want to take a crash course in music over the years.
