Investigates the plant and animal life found in ponds and streams and suggests related experiments and activities. This description may be from another edition of this product.
The age range listed for this book must be in error. Here's an excerpt from the text, page 8: "As well as your pond kit you will need a net. You could buy a net or ask an adult to help you make one from a piece of old net curtain material, sewn on to a loop of strong wire. Bind the wire tightly with string to a piece of wooden dowel or a short broom handle. Use a fine flour sieve if you have no net material. . . . Sweep the net or sieve through the water and empty the contents into the large container of water. Sort out your "catch" by transferring the animals to the smaller containers using a plastic teaspoon. Pond creatures like to hide, so don't put any weeds, dead leaves, sticks or stones into the containers. Now the animals are easier to view, take [a] closer look using a hand lens." It's maybe 50% text, and the illustrations are small and realistic, mostly meant to show details of flora and fauna.
