Ponce: What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth

What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth

For the most part, history is written by the winners. That includes most accounts depicting the conquests of the New World. Most records and artifacts of Native Americans were destroyed by the conquistadors to complete their total dominance in the new lands. Occasionally, historians working with native populations piece together some lost archives, but those examples are few and far between.

Ponce

Ponce: What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth is another fun and entertaining read by Jim Halverson. I have had the pleasure of reading all of his previous books and was excited to have the opportunity get my hands on this one. I was not disappointed. I love how his imagination brought this story based on historical events of the Spanish conquistadors and the Native Americans in present day Florida. It really looks like the author did a great job in his research about this time in history. I found myself to look further into it and was fascinated in how it all unfolded. I admired the bravery, courage and determination of the characters in the book. I loved getting to know all of them. I just could not put the book down until I was completely finished. I had no problem reading from start to finish in just one sitting. It was time well spent. Ponce: What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth is getting four and a half stars from me. I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy reading historical fiction. I look forward to reading more by Jim Halverson to find out where else he will take his readers to next. This one is most definitely worth a read. I received a paperback copy of Ponce: What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Interesting read

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS  Having read Wilderness Spa by Jim Halverson, I was glad when Ponce came up for review. Ponce: What Actually Happened at the Fountain of Youth by Jim Halverson is filled with historical events and the retelling of Ponce de Leon searching the Fountain of Youth. The story is expertly brought to life by Halverson from the pages found that were written by Ponce de Leon’s chronicler in a dry limestone cave in the northwest panhandle. Though I really did enjoy the story and it’s characters, I have to admit I was bored at times. It’s not about the writing, this is a very well written book, I guess this part in history is not my thing. One thing for sure, Halverson clearly does a lot of research before writing this book, and it shows in the detailed scenes throughout the book. If you are a history buff you will find yourself enjoying this story. I highly recommend this story to anyone enjoying a good book with lots of history. A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone.
