PCR is a revolutionary molecular diagnostic method developed by Kary Mullis in the 1980s. PCR is based on using the ability of DNA polymerase to synthesize new strand of DNA complementary to the offered template strand. PCR is now a common and often indispensable technique used in medical, dental and biological research. Most commonly used PCR types are RT (Real time PCR), RT (Reverse transcriptase) PCR, SNP (Single nucleotide Polymorphism), RFLP (Restricted Fragment Length Polymorphism) for identification and quantification of microorganisms and Markers for inflammatory and malignant and potentially malignant disorders.
