This is a book inspired by the ancient Sakhya Karikas, a systematic philosophical poem related to Yoga, and some do indeed call it part of Yoga. Yoga is a spiritual discipline, which can include popular body postures breathing methods, and meditation, but also includes spiritual texts that bring a union of the mind and body and a higher power. The book reflects on modern issues around politics and political reform, as well as recovery. This is because politics include large government elections as well as small personal interactions (or lack of) between the self or those one interacts with in their daily life. The book contains 70 stanzas (with 2 verses in each stanza) of the poem. Each stanza is shown in Sanskrit and then is transliterated. The author then deduces a word for word translation based on various versions of the poem, Sanskrit dictionaries, and her experiences and interpretations of Yoga and eastern philosophies. Anjali then shows a final translation of each verse, followed by a practical application section, where the two-verse stanza is simplified into one stanza. From there, she discusses the stanza, or a topic inspired by it, based on modern world issues. Almost anyone can find something interesting or useful out of it, regardless of their political or religious / spiritual views. The author, Anjali (Reed) Phukan Chatelle, is a recovering addict who practices and teaches yoga and ran for public offices a few times. Her father was born and raised in Assam, India. Her mother was born in Maryland and raised in Kentucky, USA. Born in Washington DC, Anjali has two master's degrees and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is also married and is on various social media sites @heartsonyoga.
