Police Reform: A Former Police Officer's Perspective

By Carl Lee McGill

In this timely and powerful book, former Los Angeles Police Officer Carl McGill offers a rare insider's view of law enforcement culture, challenges, and the urgent need for reform. Drawing on firsthand experiences from patrol to specialized assignments, McGill sheds light on the realities behind the badge-both the noble mission of public service and the systemic flaws that undermine trust between police and communities.

With candor and integrity, McGill examines discipline, accountability, recruitment, training, and the politics of policing. His perspective balances the lessons of his own career with practical recommendations for change that can bridge the gap between officers and the people they serve.

This book is not just about what's broken-it's about what can be rebuilt. Policymakers, civic leaders, and community members will find here a roadmap for honest conversation and meaningful reform, grounded in the lived experience of someone who has walked the line.
