Police Management Examination & Preparation Guide
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
By far the best study guide I've ever seen. This guide allows the Candidate to apply Policies and procedures specific to his/her own department into the practice exams and questions. I also recommend this for recently promoted Command staff, and patrol officers who are considering testing for promotion. It really helps you see the "Big Picture" within your own Department, and sharpens your thinking. I guarantee you'll get your Money's worth and so much more!
Bought for promotion preparation

Needed some guides for promotion preparation. This is one of several that I purchased, and I think all helped a little in different areas. If you have a lot of time to prepare and study (and you always should be preparing for promotion in ANY job) then get as many books & guides as you can. They will help you do better now, and get recognized now. When promotion time comes - you will be ready!
Great Book for First Time Assessment Center Prep
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
The first thing that struck me about this book is the how close the testing process covered resembles my department's testing process. If you are unfamiliar with the assessment center process and test taking in general, this book would be a real help. The book for Lieutenants, Captains, and Asst. Chiefs would be helpful for someone testing for Sergeant or Corporal as well. It isn't as in depth as some books but it covers the basics extremely well and gives tips that even veterans of the testing process can use. The book begins with a section on general testing information. The next section covers some basic managment theories. Since these always seem to be on the test, it never hurts to review them. It then goes in depth on written test and oral examniation preparation, and then the assessment center itself. The final parts have a written and oral tests to try at home. The book is written in a clear and concise manner and can be read in a fairly short amount of time. For the price I would say that this book is a good value and worth reading.
The only police book which actually teaches new things

This work is outstanding. It encompasses a complete breakdown of management theory in just a few pages. It covers both structured and unstructured assesment style exams. My one complaint, is that the book isn't long enough! (296 pages) Well worth the money.
