Poke Sallet Sally: A Black Folktale

The purpose of this book is to shed some light on the dish Poke sallet that has been eaten for years by the black race of America. It, like other foods, became a form of soul food and was seasoned with pork and other things causing it just to be another salty dish that people love to eat. I would like to tell a Black folk story that will describe the healing aspect of Poke Sallet that our ancestors discovered right here in America. This musical, poetic folk story will be about a lady named Salley who was the daughter of a Big Will and Queen. Big Will was a fisherman that caught fish with his hands. He spent a lot of time teaching and training young men in their town to learn how to provide for their families by learning this trade. Queen was a spiritual woman who believed that she could heal herself and others. She came up with a way to make poke sallet grow all year round and created a haven in the town called poke sallet alley.
