This chatty and cynical book, brilliantly (if at times sloppily) written, is the best thing I've ever read on the topic of how to actually manipulate the media. It should be a cult classic. The chapter on how to feed and water reporters made me laugh out loud, and the chapter on how to write a press release actually contained pretty sound advice - of a sort you won't ever get in a community college PR course. It's got some great lines: Man-in-the-street interview - the unintelligent in pursuit of the unintelligible...So how come the author gave it a name that told potential readers nothing? No wonder copies are still available nearly a decade after publication! A Poke in the Public Eye sounds like it's about a dirty video. However, maybe the title came from the publisher - who, for shame, did manage to spell the author's name wrong on the back cover.Five stars - one subtracted for sloppiness.
