My name is Sharard Mitchum. I'm a poet, songwriter, playwright, and youth mentor. I'm 34 years old and love to express myself through many written art forms. My poetic name is MindofaLeader, and I was inspired to write poetry after the death of my younger sister. She was a great poet but never had the chance to share her talent with the world. My journey to becoming a published writer is also inspired by my 1 and 14-year-old daughters as a way to show them that you must work hard in order to make your dreams come true.My poetry can be described as conscious poetry because I create characters that deal with real life situations. My poetry speaks to people from all walks of life; it transcends ethnicity or social status. For that reason, I truly believe that my book "Poetry of the Impoverished Mind" can be a bestseller. Moreover, I have been performing at spoken word venues such as Urban Grind, Copper Blue, Kat's Caf , and College Park Public Library for national poetry month and Hodge Podge Coffee House.
