Buddy Giovinazzo does it again. I read "Life in Cracktown" and was amazed by it. "Poetry and Purgatory" is just as good if not better. Giovinazzo uses clear, precise language to show what street life in New York City is all about. For most, his language may be coarse and offensive and his content disturbing, but it is the truth about the culture of the criminal underworld. If you can get beyond the vulgarity, gratuitous sex, harsh violence, and dismal lifestyles (i.e. dying of cancer, drug addiction, AIDS, etc), than you will really love this book--it will make you realize how horribly some people in the world live, and it's not entirely their own fault. Good book, give it a chance.
