This is not a book of poetry written for poets. It is, as the title says, a book of poems for people who are over 70, who are nearing 70, or who are beginning to encounter the realities of aging as they approach 70. A period of life that is, for some reason, called the "Golden Years" - however you care to define that. Almost all of the poems deal with growing older, although a few relate to memories that remain with me after a number of years. Most have a touch of humor. Some deal with issues that only allow a touch of acceptance, a recognition of inevitability. But I like to feel that even those poems refuse to allow that inevitability to cloud the years left. If there are fewer days remaining, why darken any more of them than we have to? Why not try to smile in as many as we can? The poems are of a variety of forms, each one determined by whatever form struck me as fitting at the point of writing.
