A blessing, a masterpiece

The two books anthologized here--Written Stone and In the Lure of the Threshold--count as two of the most powerful documents of the mystical (or human) experience on record. Comparable to Rilke's Sonnets to Orpheus and Duino Elegies, Bonnefoy's verse is flawless and mythic, demanding fierce contemplation and a relentless examination of life and death. I've worn out four copies, and I'd gladly pay $50 for a fifth one.
