A collection of miniature paintings of timeless American aircraft. It includes 34 pictures in 6x9 format for the enjoyment of pilots and others who appreciate aircraft beauty. Presented in more or less chronological order of production, it also serves as a condensed history of American general aviation. Each image is accompanied by a facing page with a short description of each scene. It begins with the first flight of the Wright brothers. Then it follows with the Taylorcraft, developed by EG Taylor who is often regarded as the father of private aviation in America. After the Taylorcraft, some of the best known airplanes are portrayed in paint including the Piper Cub, Luscombe Model 8, Ercoupe, Globe Swift, Cessna 140, Aeronca Champ, gliders, balloons, and many more.
In addition to individual aircraft portraits, anecdotal settings are included to illustrate typical aviation activities. The pictorial story shows a common flight line, various sight seeing activities, and airplanes used in business. It ends with pictures of modern day homebuilt aircraft, and a tribute to the grassroots aircraft in America.
