Very helpful

I read Please Tell Me No in one reading. The book mixes the author's personal feelings with his need to cure a problem. It's a very candid and honest confrontation with the reality of addiction and the need for a companion. The book furthers the notion that you need the help of others to get through a difficult process. I enjoyed reading the book very much.

Both Sides of the Demon

Without preaching--in fact by just telling his story in all its heartbreaking detail--Patrick Feeley lets us see the damage of addiction from two sides. He himself was an addict and he pulls no punches on how his alcoholism hurt the people he loved. And he himself was hurt by an addict he loved. Optimistic, determined and successful in his own recovery, he partnered with his beloved Kathryn to overcome her dependence on alcohol. Charming and gracious when sober, Kathryn could turn suddenly cold and hurtful following a furtive reunion with her hidden bottles of wine. Bouncing from his home in Maryland to her homes in Florida and Montana, Feeley wages an energetic battle to be a father to a son who is confused yet loyal, and a lover to his Kathryn who pushes him away only to pull him tearfully back. Ultimately Feeley's love and support could not overcome Kathryn's disease. A phone call from Kathryn's controlling and manipulative sister informing Feeley of Kathryn's sudden and unexpected death leaves us alone with Feeley and his sense of loneliness and helplessness against the demon he could defeat only for himself.
