FANTASTIC!!

I wish I could have read this YEARS ago! Wow! Communication is so simple and we make it so complex and difficult. Mr. Fetzer brings it to a realistic level that will change the way you interact with people in all areas of your life. I originally purchased this for myself and have since given it as gifts to a couple friends. Someday I hope to attend his seminar too!

Thinking I Was a Good Listener Didn't Make Me One!

Having had plenty of practice in conversation over the years, I thought I had learned to be a good listener. Please Listen to Me! showed me that many of the tools I considered effective were, instead, deterrents to the speaker's openness and blocks to my helpfulness. Thanks to Dick Fetzer's engaging little book, I now understand the reasoning behind reflective listening, as well as how to use its clear principles when someone needs to talk. It's been rewarding to gain experience in this priceless skill and see the help it brings to people who are searching for answers to their dilemmas. Their solutions lie within them, and reflective listening can open the channel to discovery!

Valuable Resource

Please Listen to Me! This book is a wonderful resource. It is straightforward. Provides real life examples of the point being illustrated. It is simple to read (and re-read). I had a copy laying out in my home and my mother took it to read on her way home to Florida. She called me after just a few hours and asked me to order five more. She presented it to her church elders in hopes they will consider plans to offer it as a class for members. We need to read it and practice it until we can live it.

Really listening is the best way to love someone!

My husband and I have taken Mr. Fetzer's seminar on listening and we've been anticipating the book's arrival. The skills are very simple to learn but take time to master (ie. break all of our old bad habits.) Recently, my husband made a sharp comment to something I said. In the past, it would have resulted in an argument followed by hours of tension between us. Instead, he saw the look of hurt on my face and practiced the reflective listening techniques. In less than five minutes, the misunderstanding was not only cleared up, but we felt closer to each other. He ACTUALLY understood my original comment and I understood where he was coming from in his statement. WOW!!

Great ideas for how to REALLY listen

This book gave me great tools for learning to really listen to people. I liked the fact that it's not about giving the right answer to someone when they have a problem, but about being there and really listening to them. And that often by simply listening, I can help them work through their struggle. I learned a lot of things NOT to do when listening (things that I had been doing!). Overall, this was a great short read packed with valuable information that we all need to know in order to communicate effectively with people!
