Stone by stone and brick by brick we are built into God's likeness. Stone by stone, God is working out His plan. Brick by brick, God builds His house. Just as in the Old Testament when literal stones served as memorials, the events of our lives serve as memorials of God's love for us, God's deliverance, God's supernatural intervention in the everyday moments of our lives. The chapters in this book each represent one of the stones in my life. An event, a person, a lesson learned, a memorial of God's working in my life. Faithfulness, forgiveness, friendship. Stones God has used in my building. Value, authority, prayer. Stepping stones along my path. The ongoing process of being built is accomplished by being willing and obedient, by following the voice of the Good Shepherd, by holding tight to the nail pierced Hand. God says to each of us: "Behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones" (Is. 54:11,12).
