The Tropic of Revelations

This is an amazing, original work. A group of disparate misfits from Palmyra, Texas comes together to form a 'crazy caravan'. Their odyssey takes them through Mexico into tropical Belize. The eccentric Elena, matriarch of the caravan, is in search of a profound personal revelation which is to be delivered to her atop a Mayan pyramid. All of the characters, young and old alike, are each in their way yearning for a sign, a new start. Mr. Shattuck's novel is permeated by a sort of compassionate mysticism and humor which only deepens as his characters wend their way through the Yucatan jungles. I recommend this book to all readers.

Pleasant Hurricanes a good yarn

This is a wonderfully touching book. Funny, hopeful, and a joy to read. The characters are engaging and come alive via excellent dialog. Recommend to all readers.
